I always had wondered what the psychology was behind people putting up pictures of themselves on Facebook, or Myspace for example. We all know those types of people that will put up all kinds of different things as the profile picture, but what if the person will continuously put up pictures of themselves? Are they looking for attention, or wanting to get noticed? What’s the whole idea behind that?
So in response to your guys posts, this would make one believe that this type of person is insecure? Or they could be just lonely? Or it’s trying to get attention?
What’s the psychology behind people putting up pictures of themselves on social networks?

They want to feel accepted and to know what other people think of them.
They want acceptance and approval. "You’re okay. I like you You’re attractive," etc.
Acceptance and self-assurance. By other people saying ‘OMG! You’re so pretty!’ etc., people feel like they have approval, and therefore are happier with themselves. It’s quite warped how other people’s opinions help define who some people are.
